THE TOP 3 SMOKIN’ HOT TRENDS

It’s a great sign for our economy that construction is back up and running.  I recently visited the new model homes at Bakers Ranch in Lake Forest and I was impressed with the homes built by Toll Brothers at The Highlands.  Their architects and designers were right on trend with what’s smokin’ hot right now.

White Cabinets-Kitchen1.  White Cabinets

Spaces are lighter and brighter and nothing adds freshness like crisp white cabinets.  Years ago everyone wanted wood cabinets, spaces were darker and would be described as rich.  Now people are using words like calming, airy, and natural to describe what they desire.

The New Gray2.  It’s all about Gray

Gray is without a doubt the dominant color in home decor right now.  The shade ranges anywhere from a beautiful warm taupey gray to a true cool, dolphin gray.  I personally happen to LOVE the new wide plank wood floors with a gray cast….think Restoration Hardware catalog.  It’s not just Restoration that’s jumped on board.  Most luxury high end furniture lines have incorporated this look into their offerings as well.

Clean Lines for Home3.  Clean Lines

From furnishings to moldings, lines have gotten much cleaner and more linear.  This style is called transitional and it’s a marriage of traditional and contemporary lines.  It’s simple and refined and lacks the carvings the yesterday.

Like me, you probably enjoy staying “in-the-know” on trends but remember nothing is more important than staying true to what you love.  Trends can provide great inspiration but if what’s hot doesn’t speak to you on a personal level, stick with what does.  Your home is your greatest life’s canvas to express your style….so like Madonna said in the 80′s…Express Yourself. ;)
